Under the quiet, starlit skies of Sharpsburg, Maryland, something magical happens. While the world sleeps, Matt “Gumby” Guenter’s gourmet mushrooms come to life—thriving in the cool night air, drawing from the earth, and growing with intention. Around here, we like to say, “Mushrooms rule the night,” and it’s not just a catchy phrase—it’s a way of life.

For Matt, this isn’t just farming. It’s healing. After years of battling chronic Lyme disease, he found his path back to health through nature—specifically, through fungi. What started as a search for relief became a lifelong passion (okay, obsession). Mushrooms offered him not only powerful nourishment and medicinal support but also a deep connection to the earth. Now, he’s sharing that gift with others.

At Gumby’s Gourmet Mushrooms, Matt cultivates every variety with care, joy, and a little bit of that free-spirited, hippie magic. Whether it’s lion’s mane for brain health, reishi for immune support, or simply an umami-packed shiitake to make your next meal unforgettable, everything we grow is rooted in a belief that food should heal and delight.

This isn’t a big industrial operation. It’s a small, local farm where quality, sustainability, and respect for nature come first. Each mushroom is tended by hand, with love, by a guy who’s as much a part of the fungi family as the mushrooms themselves (seriously, he’s a fun guy).
